I used to think letting go would feel like one big decision. Like one day I would wake up, feel nothing, and finally be ready. But it did not happen that way.
For me, letting go happened slowly. It happened in the moments I stopped checking. In the messages I no longer typed. In the explanations I no longer gave. In the silence I finally stopped trying to fill.
It happened when I realized I was more tired than attached. And maybe that is when peace started to enter quietly.
Peace taught me that not everything needs a final conversation.
Some things already ended in the way they made you feel.
The distance was already an answer. The inconsistency was already an answer. The lack of effort was already an answer. The confusion was already an answer.
I just kept waiting for words because I did not want to accept the actions.
Peace taught me that closure is not always something another person gives you. Sometimes, closure is when you stop asking why someone treated you in a way you would never treat them. Sometimes, closure is when you stop needing them to admit that they hurt you. Sometimes, closure is when you finally believe what you felt.
And what I felt was tired. Tired of chasing softness. Tired of waiting for effort. Tired of trying to understand things that kept hurting me. Tired of forcing something that only flowed when I carried it.
Letting go did not make me cold. It made me honest. Honest about what I needed. Honest about what I kept accepting. Honest about the way I was abandoning myself just to keep something alive.
And maybe peace is not always happiness at first. Sometimes peace feels unfamiliar. Quiet. Empty. A little lonely.
But even loneliness can feel lighter than staying where your heart keeps feeling unwanted.
I am still learning that letting go does not mean the memories were not real. It does not mean the love was fake. It does not mean I did not care. It only means I care about myself enough now to stop holding what keeps hurting me.
Some things leave space when they leave. And maybe that space is not punishment. Maybe it is room.
Room to breathe. Room to heal. Room to become someone who no longer begs to be chosen.
Miss Joo Reminder: Sometimes letting go is not losing someone. Sometimes it is finally getting yourself back.
